2011 Year in
Review
This has been a busy year for the Lighthouse Project! We have been involved in helping some amazing charities, including the Covenant Shelter of New London, Sensations Charitable Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, East Lyme Police Cadets, and Toys for Tots. The employees of Smith Insurance have dedicated their time and kind spirits to make these projects come together and benefit the lives of people all over Southeastern Connecticut.
In the beginning of 2011, we worked with the Covenant Shelter of New London, which helps in providing emergency housing needs for people in Southeastern Connecticut. We made a monetary donation as well as a van full of clothes!
For the Sensations Charitable Foundation, we collected spare change from everyone. With the theme of “Give them a nickel,” we were able to collect a good chunk of change in coin jars all around the office. Every cent counted!
In the beginning of the summer we collaborated with Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut to help start the process of building a home in New London. The employees of Smith Insurance dedicated three days of sweat, laughter and hard work to tear down shingles, bang on nails and work together to start rebuilding a home for a local family. We recently attended a dedication to see the finished product of the hard work that was done by everyone and the outcome was amazing. The progress from start to finish was well appreciated and very rewarding.
The walk for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation was quite the hike! We collected monetary donations to put towards breast cancer research. We even had two of our dedicated employees, Kathleen Peterson and Dan Walsh, complete the Super Half Marathon (a whole 15 miles!) Hard work and energy was put into completing that walk and they did it with the support of friends, family, and fellow employees.
The East Lyme Police Cadets were in need of new uniforms! The youths participating in this program are interested in learning about the field of Law Enforcement and we wanted to assist them in the first steps of this process. With our donation they’ll be on their way to an amazing future and be dressed to impress while doing so!
We donated money to the Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut. This money will be used for future renovations and expanding their learning resources and programs in order to continue enlightening lives of the children. The more resources the better to enrich imagination, education, and creativity!
The last charity we have been working with is Toys for Tots. The employees of Smith Insurance dedicated toys over the month of December, which we presented to the Marines on December 23rd. We filled two huge boxes of goodies to donate and can’t wait to see the looks on their faces, knowing that each toy will bring a smile to a little boy or girl! The generosity of every employee has helped make this possible.
All in all it’s been a busy year for everyone here at Smith Insurance, but all the time and effort makes each experience more rewarding. We have brought a lot of help and happiness to people in Southeastern Connecticut, and will continue to do so for the years to come. Each project is special in it’s own way, and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of everyone in the office, as well as friends, family and our customers. It is all well appreciated and we look forward to what is to come!
