Smith Insurance, Inc. was
founded in 1938 by Laurence P. Smith. In 1949 he was joined by David
C. Smith who opened our Groton office. At that point, Smith
Insurance Inc. began to grow into one of the areas most prestigious
insurance agencies. J. Norman Scott joined the firm in 1953 opening a New London office and in 1954, Norman Peck Jr. opened an office in Niantic. The expansion of the business continued with the purchase of the Harris Miner Agency in 1973. As part of that acquisition, John Budds became an important part of the Smith management team. During the years that followed, the agency grew and enjoyed great success through the purchase of several insurance agencies, the writing of profitable business and the efforts of the many professionals who have contributed their hard work and dedication to making Smith Insurance, Inc. the fine operation it is today.
